Rural Chinese Leave Home in Search of a Better Life

Faraj Aldossary

S/R # 2

In the article ”Rural Chinese Leave Home in Search of a Better Life” by L. Lim, the author reports that most Chinese people came from the countryside to live in the cities. They moved to cities to look for jobs and business to get better lives. The author states that Chinese people made the biggest internal migration around the world. Then, the author considers that is the major cause for booming cities. Next, the author views some examples to prove his idea; that internal migration caused overcrowding in big cities. After that, the author states that work in the city is easier than agriculture. Finally, the author mentions that Chinese people like to live in cities, instead of the countryside. I believe that people go from rural places to urban areas to get jobs, to benefit from advanced technology, and to study in developed schools.

First of all, people migrate from countryside to cities to get good work. Cities have many functional opportunities. For example, a city has many companies, factories, and commercial shops; like that situation certainly provides many vacant jobs. On the other hand, jobs give high wages in the city. For example, a factory that has hard and dangerous work gets high profits; accordingly, it gives high salaries. Therefore, there are many reasons that attract people to live in the city.

Second, there is a lot of advanced technological equipment in cities while they are not provided in villages. That equipment enriches a life to be very comfortable. For example, air conditioners, refrigerators, and furnaces. In addition, people live in a time of globalization, so they like to deal with technology; especially with communications. Consequently, cities have globalization’s components. For example, there are cell phones, TVs, computers, and electrical tools. Therefore, the technology is a good reason for people to prefer living in a city.

Third, a city has good educational institutions. There are good public schools and universities. For example, people who live in the city have available opportunities to complete their high study. Also, the city has private schools for people who want to get special learning and additional educational services. For example, if parents are employees and they have children, who will take care of their children? Then, they need private schools to keep and care for the children until their parents finish their work. Therefore, a city is a good place to get what you want of services.

In conclusion, a Chinese city has many good things and services. People move from rural places to the city to get some of them. This make these cities crowded. Year after year, the city will have overcrowding. Therefore, China’s government should make some procedures to obviate this problem before it happens. Finally, there are many organized crowded cities around the world.

Overpopulation in China

Faraj Aldossary

Population is the number of people who are alive in the same place; house, area, city, country, or entire the world at the same time. Any country has to know the trends of its population to take care of them in the future. A country’s government is responsible to provide a good life for its population. The government has to have strong infrastructures such as schools , health care centers, hospitals, and housing. On the other hand, there are many countries around the world that have overpopulation; China is one of them. Overpopulation is a large number of people who live in a limited place together. Overpopulation is a problem that comes with many social, economical, environmental, security problems. Overpopulation is a main cause of serious crises whether they are individual or public. “Overpopulation, the situation of having large numbers of people with too few resources and too space, is closely associated with poverty” (Zaki, 2007, para. 9). China is the biggest country that suffers from overpopulation. Moreover, China’s population forms a high percent of the increase of world’s population growth. According to Associated Press Online (2007), China’s population increased by almost 7 million people at the end of 2006. China has 20 percent of the world’s population. Chinese authorities formulated procedures to control or decrease overpopulation. According to Ford (2007), China’s family-planning policy, China’s birth-control policy, and one-child policy are examples of China’s government polices to control its overpopulation. Therefore, I believe that any country that has overpopulation will be exposed to be after developing countries, because it will suffer from environmental and economic problems; besides, it will have places that will be overcrowded.

First of all, overpopulation affects environment negatively. If a society consists of many people, then the society will face impact from people. The people will suffer from a lack of natural resources; food, water, energy, and clean air. When population increases, then natural resources should increase to perform people’s needs. For example, surely people need to eat every day; if Chinese people eat a unique kind of food such as a burger meal, China’s government will be forced to provide a lot of burger meals; this requires killing many cattle, consequently, they will end the category of cows or they are not going to find burger meals to eat in the next day. ”Population growth results increases the demand for food production” (Stancheva, 2003, para. 4). Furthermore, overpopulation impacts water sources. Overpopulation demands an increase of agriculture, industry, and other areas that basically depend on water. Thus there is an increase of water consumption. Furthermore, water is not less important than food, so people need it for many vital uses. According to Stancheva (2003, para. 2), water is a fundamental thing of life. It is demanded to keep the balance of each ecosystem. Also, it is used by plants and animals to fulfill important functions. The consumption of water increases as long as human population increases.

Second, overpopulation causes negative effects on a country’s economy. Government will face many people without jobs to support themselves. This will raise the rate of unemployment; therefore, this will increase the rate of crime because the people will need to steal, fight, burglarize, or even kill to get vital needs to survive. For example, if someone is starving but he does not have money to buy food and does not have any source to get help, then he will resort to wrong ways to get food by stealing that will lead him eventually to be criminal, that is a basic pushing forward of crime. On the other hand, most Chinese people are working-age; besides, the Chinese authorities apply some policies to control overpopulation. This will lead to China’s having many old people over working-age. “In the next decade, the proportion of China’s over-65 population will begin to grow while the working-age population will being to shrink. That will impose huge financial burdens on a country struggling to meet its pension commitments to the elderly” (Radio and Television Stories, 2006).

Third, overpopulation pushes people to be crowded. In some countries, there are many cities that have become increasingly crowded until whole families lived in one-room. In China country, people have migranted from rural places to urban areas for searching of work, jobs, and a good life. Therefore, the crowd of people will bring many social problems such as poverty and homelessness. For example, in the down town of big cities, it is difficult for traffic because many people are crowded over there. “Roughly two thirds of China’s population is born in rural areas. But more and more of those people are moving to the cities to look for work”(Lim, 2006). On the other hand, I truly feel that rural people’s moving from the countryside to city should not blamed for all the country’s problems but they are increasing the effects of overpopulation and making problems harder to solve. For example, many people may move to the city at same time; then, the government can not immediately provide houses for all of them. “Cities are predicted to edge out rural areas in more than sheer numbers of people. Poverty is increasing more rapidly in urban areas, and governments need to plan for where the poor will live rather than leaving them to settle illegally in shanties without sewerage and other services, the United Nations report says” (Celia, 2007).

Many opponents believe that any country that has overpopulation will be a developing country, and then a developed country, because overpopulation will support many vital areas. They argue that China’s overpopulation is going to force people to work in different fields; consequently, they will produce benefits in different areas. They think if population increases, then factories, companies, shops, farms, and buildings will increase, too. In addition, they say that China will export its culture through its immigrants. In addition, China’s overpopulation will be useful to increase other countries’ populations. However, the overpopulation problem is the big cause for many problems. Overpopulation may support some fields by many people, but more and more people will be unemployed. This situation will put China’s government in trouble because they will face social, economic, political problems. Consequently, the government can not control overpopulation. Then, there will be noisy, crazy, and starving people nationwide. For example, when a country has overpopulation, then those people will have many children. Those children will need schools, health care, and all vital services or they will be homeless. According to Zaki (2007, para. 2), poorest people around the world live in developing areas such as Asia. Mostly, they suffer from poverty, drug use, crime, and high rates of disease.

In conclusion, when a family has a big number, then it will buy a bigger house to live comfortably. That is a good solution for family, but it is impossible for a country. Chinese authorities have tried to control overpopulation. They applied many policies to control it. All the world takes care of China’s overpopulation because the Chinese people have a high percentage of the world’s population. Overpopulation is a big controversial issue. Overpopulation has advantages if the authorities can control it, or it will have many disadvantages. However, there are some debates about overpopulation now. Nevertheless, to control overpopulation, it is essential to produce vital needs. Moreover, China’s overpopulation may be a coming danger to the world. The Chinese authorities are facing many troubles with overpopulation. Many people in China live in large cities that affect the. Since the increasing of the population size in China country, the government should take care of residents and they should control and decrease China’s overpopulation. Absolutely, they should consider and make better urban areas to prevent becoming an under-developed country.

Computers are the top of invention of technologies because many of the other technologies are dependent on the computer. Moreover, the computer enhanced many things in our lives. On the other hand, the computer comes with many problems. Computer has some disadvantages which causes disapproval in some areas. Actually, it is not bad but there are many people who use it in a bad way. This makes it sometimes a harmful tool. For example, someone can make a program to steal a lot of personal information. Other people can make a program for damaging other’s computers. In addition, it could be a safe way for criminals to contact each other, which will encourage crime to be extended. Finally, computer might have one disadvantage to abolish many of its advantage.

Computer is the best thing of technology that has enhanced our lives; day life was walking slowly before computers. There were hand documents, so if you wanted to produce some formal documents, you would waste a lot of time waiting for governmental procedures to finish your documents. In addition, there was no communication between different cultures as we see now. These days, you can not imagine there is a place without computers; governmental positions, schools, private institutions, hospitals, airports, offices, or houses all use computers. Moreover, you barely watch someone without computer. However, there are many reasons that use of computer has spread throughout the world. First of all, there are many kinds of computer sizes, systems, and shapes. Next, anyone can use it to do simple assignments, so the computer is easy to use. Finally, computer saves your money because it is cheap to use. Therefore, computers have made our life better than before.

I think the best romantic place is Lebanon country. When I got married, my bride and I went there. We spent about one month over there. Lebanon country has many choices to enjoy wild nature, sea, museums, historic relics, fantastic international hotels, amusement parks, and hospitable people. Because we wanted to visit most of the beautiful things in Lebanon country, we made a plan to move there. Then we enjoyed over there, and we recognized new things and new experiences. Over there, you will find fresh natural fruits, delicious food, and a fit climate to refresh your life. I like Lebanon country as a romantic place. When we went there we wished to live there forever, but now we thank god we aren’t there because of civil war. These days, I am sad for their situations. Lebanon looks like an innocent girl; they should keep it a rose in global earth.

Kabsa

Today I will talk about Kabsa as a kind of favorite food in my country, Saudi Arabia, and other Arabic countries. Kabsa is a popular and traditional meal for a lot of Arabic societies. Moreover, it is considered a main dish on the lunch table almost every day. On the other hand, it caught on in other foreign countries. It has many healthy benefits. It is made of rice cooked with red or white meat or chicken in a pot. To prepare kabsa cut the onion and put it in the pot; stir it with a little vegetable oil until it begins to brown. Then, add the meat pieces; fry it until it begins to brown, add tomato, spices, salt, pepper and water. Then, cover the pot, and cook it over medium heat about 25-30 minutes. You can add something else for tasting if you want. Then put it in one big dish to gather with your family around to share the meal. Serve it hot. I prefer kabsa with salad, hot and spicy, and with a cold soda. Hummmmmmmmmm

China Vows to Half Growing Gender Imbalance

Faraj Aldossary
S/R # 1

In the article ”China vows to half growing gender imbalance” by Xinhua General News Service, the author discusses growing gender imbalance. The author state that Chinese authorities have made measures and serious punishments to control two big problems affecting gender ratio imbalance; fetus gender testing and sex-selective abortions. The author says that the authorities pledged to protect girls from ill treatment that may reach killing. Then, he views that the authorities have made a statement containing those measures that will be reached nationwide. After that, the author shows some statistics to support his opinion. Moreover, the author states that the authorities have offered incentives to encourage families to have girls. Next, he states that the authorities made a policy to prevent the rising population and sex ratio imbalance. Then, the author states that the authorities are strict to apply laws, especially government officials. Finally, the author mentions that the authorities encourage enterprises support government programs of sex ratio imbalance and population. Therefore, Chinese authorities should make severe procedures to protect human rights, to make balance of gender, and to control their population
Chinese authorities should offer stimulus to families who have only a girl and make punishments for people who discard girls.

First, Chinese people were violating human rights when they were killing girls. They were murdering fetuses if they were female. For example, when a woman get pregnant they make gender testing; if the fetus was a boy they would keep him, but if it was female they would abort her. Also, they were thinking that only boys could help their parents to face life’s troubles, while girls couldn’t do anything useful, so Chinese people thought that girls just added an imposition. For example, parents depend on boys to share their own work more than girls even simple chores. Therefore, the authorities should try to make Chinese people avoid violation of the human rights.

Second, Chinese authorities made some policies to control their population. Each family is allowed to have just one child. These procedures made the people trying to have a boy rather than a girl. This behavior made sex ratio imbalance. Sex-selective abortions were spread among them. For example, they made fetus gender testing; if it was a girl they aborted her just because she was not a boy. Also, that behavior will put them in a big problem; they will reach a stage without enough women to be wives or mothers. For example, the natural average of any country is the number of men almost equals the number of women, but in China men are more than women, so they are barely able to find women to be wives. Therefore, the authorities had to control this problem before it is uncontrolled.

Third, China has a high population. Chinese authorities should make strict policies to curtail its population. China’s population has a large number, so if they have freedom to have children as they want, they will make a larger population. For example, if a couple has four children, that will be enough to double the population. Also, the high population will come with many serious economic, social, and security problems. For example, people can’t find functions or work to get food. Therefore, Chinese authorities should control this population problem as soon as they can.

In conclusion, Chinese authorities made policies to control population, but they don’t consider other sides. Then they get new problems such as gender imbalance. However, Chinese authorities have to solve population problem and save girls’ lives. China’s problem will affect a whole world because China has a largest population around the world.
